How To Gas Line

Black pipe on propane supply??????any experiences//. Re: propane supply line Author: jimbo42 (NY) thanks for feedback.

Propane line will not be enclosed in any wall or ceiling etc.planned was to 1/2' run copper tubing from service regulator / valve at outside tankage thru block wall thru 20+ feet off acessable crawl space and then tie into 1/2'black pipe which goes thru chimmey below grate/log area and comes up thru the ash door and ties into control valve provided with log set. Plug valve will be provided as required etc.[this is plan 1]. Since log set is furnished with an aluminum flare pigtail [approximately 10' long] which is provided for connection of black pipe supply to control valve, which is in fireplace proper just below gas log set.why not run copper direct from tankage to provided control valve [no black pipe-seamless copper tubing all the way-[no fittins etc.]??

[[if flared aluminum can be at this location why not copper which i believe to be more durable/safe in fire area location.]] any feed back appreaciated.thanks. Re: propane supply line Author: hj (AZ) We are not on the same page when it comes to the shut off valve. In this area it has to be outside the firebox, which will be difficult when you bring the gas up through the ash pit opening.

It has to be at least 10' from the fireplace opening, but no further than 36'. With propane it is especally important to be outside, since any leak will cause a fire or explosion inside the fireplace where you will not be able to reach the shutoff valve, and it could become very serious before you think to go outside and shut off the propane tank valve.
